Emulation of older Disk-pack and Tape Drives
Disk Drives and Tape Drives are typically the weakest links in a legacy computer system. Replacing them with our emulation products will prolong the life and restore the reliability of aging computer systems. Our products are used extensively throughout business and government, where Customers have incurred a large investment in special hardware and unique, non-portable software. Emulations have been implemented for a wide range of computer platforms and include floppy drive replacements as well as early SCSI subsystems. Custom packaging is also available.
Model MED-1 is a direct replacement for 8-inch disk drives used in numerous CT and MRI scanners. MED-1 uses the existing cables for data and control.

SMD Emulation SMD replacement
Now there is a simple way to use reliable SCSI drives on present real-time or minicomputer. Reduce downtime and service calls - eliminate unreliable disk drives. The SMDR-1 directly replaces the original disk drive with a drive emulator. SMDR-1 mimics the operation of the original drive, but actually stores data on a new SCSI drive. The change is totally transparent to the operating system. The operating procedures for the system are not altered.
PLUG COMPATIBLE with 8-INCH DRIVES
No hardware or software modifications are required to upgrade to fast, reliable SCSI drives on existing computers. Unplug the existing disk drive and install the SMDR-1, using the same cables. Power for the unit is provided from the existing power supply - same as the old drive. Changes to the diagnostics or operating software are not necessary.
SMDR-1 SMD emulator replaces most 8-inch disk drives using the industry standard SMD to SMD-E interface. For systems using a drive control panel, an interface connector is provided on the SMDR-1. Adapters can be provided for the specific drive being replaced.
MAINTENANCE FREE
The SMDR-1 carries a 1 year warranty and uses Ultra SCSI disk drives for low maintenance operation. Many drives are rated in excess of 500,000 hours MTBF.
Model SMDR-1 is a direct replacement for 8 / 9 and 14-inch SMD disk drives used in numerous real-time and minicomputers. SMDR-1 uses the existing cables for data and control. Power is supplied from the existing power supply.
REDUCED POWER and COOLING
SMDR-1 receives power from the existing supply. The unit uses significantly less power and runs cooler than 8-inch drives, thus reducing the power supply load. An adapter allows the SMDR-1 to plug into the present power supply connector.
