FLEXSTAR
TESTERS / FLEXSTAR TEST SYSTEMS
Flexstar has been producing state-of the-art test equipment for Data-Storage devices for many years, and is currently continuing to develop and manufacture new models today . MBI-USA supply whole units, parts and service for many of these units. Here we have tried to seperate and clarify these different models into the following categories :-
1/
The current "PEGASUS" test system supports the
enhanced speed and capacity requirements of the newest generation of storage
devices. Designed with an open architecture, the Pegasus platform addresses
the market’s need for the ability to test multiple interfaces with minimal
set-up time. At the heart of the Pegasus system is an Intel Celeron-based
single board computer (SBC) that supports UDMA, SCSI, FC-AL, ATAPI and SATA
interfaces (plus more to come). This open architecture design runs
Flexstar’s Perseus test software, including customer-developed test cases
written in Java or C.
Current interfaces available -
UDMA66, UDMA100 and UDMA133, SCSI 4 Ultra 320, FC-AL 2gbps, ATAPI,
Serial ATA 2.0, USB 2.0, SAS
We can supply new systems that come as 1 port
(Solo), 4 port (Quattro), 32 port (32B aka 2350) burn in chambers, and 104 port burn-in chambers (104B). Prices do vary depending on the type of interface ports chosen, so please call or email us with your requirements. Lead time on new product varies depending on model. We do have
some used / refurbished units from time to time, so please call us with your needs.
2/ The "ORION" Range of Flexstar Test Systems, was superceded by the Pegasus range. These systems used an earlier single board Celeron computer (SBC) per port design inside the cabinet communicating via LAN. The interfaces covered were UDMA, LVD (Low Voltage Differential), Fibre Channel (FC-AL), USB, Atapi, Parallel Channel etc. These systems came in both established styles such as 2350 (AKA 30B, 32B), Solo, Quattro and V8 configurations, plus larger cabinets for higher volume needs.
3/ The "LEGACY" Range, SOLO, QUATTRO, V8, 2350 AND 3350, covers interface boards that include EIDE, SCSI Fast and Wide, SCSI 3 (UltraSCSI), PCMCIA, ATAPI, & UDMA33. These are presented in single, 4, 8 bench-top units, and then in "tower" 30 / 32 port configurations holding up to a possible theorctical maximum of 64 ports. These are cheaper than Orion models, but the IDE/UDMA adapters have certain interface limitations dictated by their electronics design.
4/ The FS2301S, FS2304E and FS2308E "Benchtop"testers.These were a "bridge" from the above testers to the older style below, that could use either the architecture of the FS2300 or the Legacy. It is therefore possible to cover the "older" interfaces of the FS2300's or the above mentioned later Legacy interface types. Coming in 1, 4 or 8 port styles, typically the finish is a single box in beige, although the FS208E come with two cabinets joined by cables.
5/ The FS2300 range of Multi-Port testers, including the FS2304, FS2304S, FS2300 in 16/ 24/ 32/ 48/ 72 and 96 port versions. Supporting IDE, SCSI1 and SCSI2, ESDI and Fast ESDI, MFM and RLL interface devices in varying configurations from
4 to 96 port machines, generally identified by the distinctive Flexstar maroon color, although some later versions of the FS2304S were colored beige. As these systems are now becoming dated, we only have limited stocks of parts etc, please call for more information.
