The UDO (ULTRA DENSITY OPTICAL) drive is a high performance multifunction 5.25 inch, half-height form factor optical disk drive. The first generation drives use a blue-violet optical laser assembly to read and write data to 30GB/60GB Write Once and Rewritable UDO media. Designed specifically to meet the rigorous demands of automated library environments, UDO drives have a documented MSBF of 750, 000 load/unload cycles.

The new Plasmon 30GB/60GB UDO drives and libraries offer at least a 230 percent increased capacity and a 33 percent better transfer rate than previous generation optical products. This is the biggest capacity jump in 20 years of optical innovation, and this is the largest kind of capacity and performance jump since the release of 14x Magneto Optical (MO) technology.
